What a start to the year! Despite macro-economic and political turmoil, the market in our traditional areas in the Atlantic Seaboard, City Bowl and CBD has continued to show exceptionally strong demand, resulting in our lowest stock levels since inception five years ago. In this period we have sold R1,5 billion in development property across 18 projects. There is no doubt this figure - impressive though it might be - would have been far higher if it weren’t for the difficulty in acquiring suitable development opportunities in these areas, and in obtaining timeous planning approval decisions from relevant local authorities.

We believe our developments have been extremely well received by purchasers for two intrinsic reasons: the quality of the Signatura product in terms of design and delivery, and the prime locations we have identified and acquired.

However, there is no denying an additional factor is the built-in investment value our projects offer, due to the fact that typically we are selling at today’s prices for delivery in 18 months time. This is a significant period of capital growth in Cape Town’s prime residential areas, where house price growth significantly outstrips national averages. In fact, most authorities, such as Dr Andrew Golding, are reporting growth rates of over 25% in the last 12 months in select areas such as Sea Point and Green Point!

It seems clear that these were the driving factors in the amazing market response to our most recent development, The Barkly in Ocean View Drive, where six out of the seven apartments were snapped up within two weeks of the launch.
